OREGON COUNTY -- Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt announced last week that three law enforcement agencies in the county have received state law enforcement grants.
Statewide, over $760,000 in funds were awarded to county and city law enforcement departments. A total of 123 agencies received grants.
In Oregon County, the Alton Police Department received $4,976. Alton Police Chief Rusty Warren said the funds will be used to purchase two new light bars and two siren boxes for the patrol cars.
The Thayer Police Department received $4,104. City officials said the police department will buy new light bars and new prisoner restraint devices for the city patrol cars.
The Oregon County Sheriff's Department received $3,577. Chief Deputy Eric King said the department will purchase five new bulletproof vests for the reserve officers in the department.
Blunt's office said the funds are given for the law enforcement departments to purchase safety equipment such as radios, ballistic vets and items to ensure the safe and secure transport of prisoners.
