Filing period begins in Oregon County

OREGON COUNTY -- Filing for school board and municipal positions in Oregon County began Dec. 12 for the April 3 election.

Oregon County Clerk Gary Hensley said those wishing to file will have through Jan. 16, 2007, to file for a school board or municipal seat in Alton, Couch, Koshkonong or Thayer.

There are two 3-year positions open on the Alton School Board.

In the Couch School District there will be two 3-year seats up for election on the school board and one 2-year seat.

The 2-year seat is held by Jesse Williams who was appointed to the school board in September following the resignation of Jeff Honeycut who moved out of the school district.

At Koshkonong, two 3-year positions will be on the election ballot.

There are also two 3-year seats on the ballot in the Thayer school district.

All school board secretaries said filing will take place in the superintendent's office at their schools during regular business hours.

The city of Alton will have two two 2-year alderman-at-large positions on the April 3 election ballot.

Koshkonong will also have two 2-year alderman- at-large seats.

Thayer will have a mayor's seat on the ballot. The municipal tax collector in the city will be on the election ballot. The Ward I alderman seat and the Ward II alderman seat will be on the ballot at Thayer.

Candidates can file for municipal positions in Alton and Thayer at their respective city halls during normal business hours Monday through Friday.

Candidates can file for the alderman positions at Koshkonong Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. until noon.
