As a hard-slugging third basemen for the Harding University Bisons, Marty Ninemire was one tough out.
Case in point -- the 1984 season.
In 93 plate appearances in '84, Ninemire struck out only six times while hitting .417, the third-highest single-season batting average in Harding University history.
Performances like that earned Ninemire a plaque and spot in the Harding Athletics Hall of Fame.
Ninemire was one of the 10 new members inducted by the Bison Boosters Hall of Fame committee Oct. 21 in a ceremony at the Harding University Heritage Center Founders Room in Searcy. The committee inducts new members in the Harding Athletics Hall of Fame every five years. The Hall currently boasts 59 members.
Ninemire, head baseball, head junior high and assistant high school football coach at Highland High School, made the first team All-Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference squad in 1982 and 1984 while playing baseball for Harding University.
His .343 career batting average ranks fifth all-time at Harding. Ninemire's tenure at Harding also includes two home runs and 56 runs-batted-in in 87 games.
