Horns edge Indians in double-OT

It took double-overtime, but the Viola Longhorns managed to put away a pesky bunch of Delaplaine Indians 55-53 Nov. 7 at the Longhorn Corral.

The contest was locked at 51-all after regulation.

Viola kept control of the ball for the duration of the first OT frame, but could not score, sending the game to a second extra frame.

Lucas Rains (20 points) nailed the game-winning jumper for the Horns (4-3) as time wound off the clock in the second overtime frame.

Kasey Humphries logged 15 points for Viola.

The Lady Longhorns had a bit easier time, topping Delaplaine 46-30.

Micah Thompson led the Lady Longhorns (2-4) with 23 points, while Mikita Thompson followed with nine points for Viola.

The Lady Horns used an 18-6 burst right before the half to grab control, taking a 31-18 lead to the break.

The Longhorns took a tight 50-47 win from their neighbors from Salem Nov. 10 at the Dawg House.

Rains paced Viola with a game-high 22 points, while Humphries tallied 10.

Derek Estes led the Greyhounds with 19, with Lance Powell tallying 10.

The Lady Greyhounds evened the night with a 41-37 victory over the Lady Horns.

Jenny Neal finished with nine points for Salem.

Chastity Hudson paced Viola with 10, and Elizabeth Giles hit for nine for the Lady Longhorns.
