THAYER -- Thayer was one of 30 Missouri communities that recently received economic impact grants.
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns announced last week that Thayer received $10,300 for a new police car and an additional $9,000 for safety equipment for existing police cars.
Nationwide communities received over $16 million in grants that will be used to improve public safety, health care and educational services.
In Missouri communities received $788,981 to fund 30 projects.
Greg Branum, Missouri state director for USDA Rural Development, said, "Missouri is very fortunate to receive $788,943 in funds to assist communities in funding emergency vehicles, rescue equipment, emergency warning systems and new renovated justice centers," he said.
