James Edward Ray Sr. died July 4, 2006, at his home in Koshkonong at the age of 83. He was born July 22, 1922, in Pratt, Mo., son of the late Walter N. Ray and Edith Rosson Ray.
He was united in marriage Nov. 29, 1941, in Kennett, Mo., to Hazel Brazeal.
He was a mechanic by trade and enjoyed his favorite sport, squirrel hunting. He also enjoyed fishing and was well-known for his trading ability. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel of the home in Koshkonong; one daughter, Elma Wilson and husband Robert of Brandsville, Mo.; one son, James Ray Jr. and wife Ranette of Koshkonong; six grandchildren, Tammy Evetts, Phyllis Cunningham, Robert Wilson, Tracy Wilson, Amy Ray and Kristy Ray; 13 great-granchldren; seven great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sylvia Brazeal of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Mary McMenemy of Steelville, Mo.; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Earl, Elbert and Thomas Ray.
Funeral services were held July 6 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with burial in the Walker Cemetery in Thayer with Rev. Charles Gower officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
Pallbearers were Albert Ray, Mike Ray, Ron Ray, Rick Ray, Tim Ray and Lonnie Ray.
