Cloris I. Newman of Byron, Ark., daughter of the late Henry Alford DeWitt and Oma Lee Sanders DeWitt, was born July 29, 1933, in Rodney, Ark. She died Sept. 7, 2006, at the Community Medical Center of Izard County in Calico Rock at the age of 73.
She was united in marriage to Treno Newman on Jan. 31, 1949, in Byron, Ark. To this union six children were born.
She was employed as a cook for the Salem Public School System for many years, retiring in 1995.
She was a member of the Melbourne VFW, the Byron Extension Homemakers Club and the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her children, Bobby (Jane) Newman of Byron, Fred (Geneva) Newman of Batesville, Billy Joe Newman of Byron, Tommy Lee (Peggy) Newman of Byron, Denice (Mike) Innis of Salem and Carol Newman of Byron; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Dolly Mae (Larry) Coonce of Raytown, Mo., Wilma Henrietta (Don) Kirn of Lee's Summit, Mo., Ethel Lee (David) Fann of Yucca Valley, Calif., Franklin Lee (Norma) DeWitt of Raytown, Mo., Larkin William (Evelyn) DeWitt of Adrian, Mo., Delores Rose (Terry) Tate of Brockwell, Judy Ann (Walter) Dillinger of Viola; and a sister-in-law, Pauline DeWitt of Viola.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her brother, Leamond Thurston DeWitt; her sister, Cleates Marie Kruse; and her father and mother.
The funeral services were held Sept. 11 at the Bryon Presbyterian Church with burial in the Byron Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
