James Donald Walling of Byron, Ark., son of the late George Richard and Beulah Jeanie (Smith) Walling, was born July 30, 1914, at Hobart, Okla.
He died Sept. 7, 2006, in Salem at the age of 92.
Walling was united in marriage to Marie Helm on July 17, 1942, at Byron, and to this union a son was born.
He spent his working years as a farmer and carpenter.
He was a member of the Byron Church of Christ.
Survivors include one son, Jim Walling and wife, Shirley of Salem; two grandchildren, Melissa Morrison and husband, Kendall of Melbourne and Chad Walling and wife Andrea of Salem; three great-grandchildren, Rory Kee Walling, Katy Beth Walling and Rhett Walling Morrison; a host of nephews and nieces; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marie; his parents; two brothers, Ponder Walling and Dr. Russell Walling; and two sisters, Pansy Nesbitt and Georgia Turner.
The funeral services were held on Sept. 9 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with Bro. Ronnie Adams officiating.
Interment followed in the Byron Cemetery, with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Ralph Moore, Bob Bassham, Donnie Foster, Wes Cochran, Jeff Barnett and Charles Cochran.
Honorary pallbearers included Dr. Jim Bozeman and Fulton County Nursing Center nurses and staff.
