Couch prepares for new school year

MYRTLE -- Couch School will open the 2006-2007 school year Aug. 14 at 8:06 a.m. with a full day of classes, dismissing at 2:54 p.m.

Registration dates are:

Aug. 3 -- 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. New students register in all grades.

Students in grades seven and eight will receive schedules the first day of school. Students in grades 7-12 are required to pay a $10 book deposit on Aug. 14.

Couch School Superintendent Tom Bull said buses will run their regular routes. Breakfast and lunch will be served in the cafeteria.

Breakfast and lunch prices are as follows:


K-6, 70 cents

7-12, 70 cents

Reduced K-12, 30 cents

Adults, $1.10


K-6, $1

7-12, $1.10

Reduced, K-12, 40 cents

Adults $1.60

Bull said teacher work days at the school will be Aug. 10 and 11.

Free sports physicals will be held Aug. 5 and Aug. 19 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Thayer Clinic.

Alton Clinic is offering free sports physicals on Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Bull said all students participating in sports and other extracurricular activities will be required to obtain a physical. He said forms are available in the high school office and at the clinics. Forms must be signed by a parent before the physical will be conducted.

Couch School A+ Coordinator Lacy Sorrell said A+ sign-in at the school will be Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. in the old school gym.

The annual Couch School alumni meeting and dinner will be Sept. 2.

Classes at Couch School will be dismissed on Sept. 4 for Labor Day.
