Thayer, Alton Christmas parades set

AREA -- The Alton and Thayer Christmas parades will be held Dec. 2.

"A Vintage Christmas" is the theme for the Alton Christmas parade.

The VFW Post 1014 color guard, Santa, bands, floats, four-wheelers, horses, antique cars and Little Mister and Miss Merry Christmas candidates and this year's king and queen will all be a part of the parade.

The grand marshal for the parade will be Mike Dethrow, state representative for the 153rd District.

Entertainment will be begin at 9 a.m. by the Alton Assembly of God in the Alton High School gym, with the Little Mister and Miss Christmas Pageant following at 10 a.m.

The parade will start at 11 a.m.

"Christmas Festival" is the theme for the Thayer Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade.

The parade will start at 2 p.m. at Thayer High School and end at the bottom of Chestnut Street.

All floats will be judges and cash prizes awarded.

The crowning of the Mister and Miss Merry Christmas contestants will be immediately following the parade.

A chamber spokesman said the chamber welcomes all participants.

In addition to the parade, the chamber is sponsoring a home light decorating contest that will be judged Dec. 20 at 5:30 p.m.
