Evelyn Turner Sutherland, a retired seamstress, died at her home in Mammoth Spring, Aug. 22, 2006, at the age of 89.

She was born Feb. 7, 1917, in Kennett, Mo., the daughter of the late C.R. Settlemoir and Ethel Curtis Settlemoir. She was united in marriage on May 16, 1936, in Kennett to Frank Turner, who preceded her in death, June 30, 1979. She was united in marriage Feb. 6, 1983, in Thayer to Damon Sutherland who preceded her in death June 24, 2004.

She was employed by Rice Stix, being one of the first hired for a factory to be opened in Thayer for a total of 21 years. She was active in the Thayer and Mammoth Spring Arts and Crafts Association, serving as vice president for a number of years. She was an accomplished cook and truly enjoyed family gatherings.

She was a member of the Thayer Church of Christ.

She is survived by five children, Jerry Turner and wife Mary of Mammoth Spring, Bobby Turner and wife Rita of Mammoth Spring, Judy Smith and husband Don of Thayer, Patricia Welch and husband Dale of Sparta, Mo., and Janice Wood and husband, Andy of Mammoth Spring.

Damon added to her children Don Sutherland and wife Pat, Gayle Cozort and husband Norman, Caroline Sims and Danny Sutherland and wife Anna. She is also survived by one brother, Charles Settlemoir of Clarkton, Mo.; one half-sister, Helen Horn of Banning, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one brother, James R. Settlemoir; one sister, Euyvonne Freeman; and one step-grandson, David Darby.

The funeral services were held Aug. 25 at the Thayer Church of Christ with Larry Yarber and Erman Croney officiating.

Burial followed in the Riverside Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
