Hughie Viola Davis, 89, of Independence, Mo., died Aug. 19, 2006, at Maywood Terrace Living Center, Independence. She was born April 1, 1917, in Couch, Mo., the daughter of the late George Edgar and Maggie Elizabeth (Combs) Storms.
She was married to Ralph Davis. After his death, she married Wilbur Davis on Oct. 8, 1977. She was a homemaker and Baptist. She enjoyed cooking, canning, knitting, sewing and quilting. She also liked to crochet and embroidery. She loved being a mother and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Martha Davis, of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister and brother-in-law, Nora and Royce Hollis of Thayer; four grandchildren, Chuck, Michael, Carol Jean and Kel and his wife, Chessie Davis, all of Kansas City; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph Davis and Wilbur Davis; one son, Ray Davis; one daughter, Anna Jean Davis; one brother Willie Storms; four sisters, Artha, Mamie, Margie and Hellen; and a grandson, Ralph E. Davis.
The funeral services were held Aug. 22 at the Atkinson Chapel in Harrisonville, Mo., with Rev. Henry Green officiating. Burial followed Aug. 23 at the Thayer Cemetery in Thayer with Rev. Grover Pingleton of Thayer officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home of Harrisonville, Mo.
