Clyde Johnson, 89, of Memphis, died Aug. 23, 2006, at his home.

He was born Sept. 17, 1916, at Sardis, Miss., the son of the late William Anderson and Anna Viola (Pruitt) Johnson,

He was a retired heavy equipment operator, a United States Navy veteran, a lifelong member of the Teamsters Union and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Ann Devine of Memphis; one stepson, Walter Denley, and one stepdaughter, Judy Kerr, both of Atlanta; two brothers, Leroy Johnson of Evening Shade and Woodrow Johnson of Strawberry; two sisters, Willie Jackson of Sardis and Beulah Bradley of Des Arc, Ark., six grandchildren, Joe Taylor of Clinton, Sheila Tanner of Memphis, Shannon Sanders of Salem, Roger Cothern of Memphis, Michelle Blackburn of Attica, Ind., and Diane Campbell of Memphis; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Geneva (Mercer) Johnson; one daughter, Shelby Pitchford; one stepdaughter, Mary Jo Wells; one brother, Wade Johnson; and one great-granddaughter, Anna Sanders.

His funeral services were held Aug. 26 at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Bro. W.E. Norris officiating.

Burial followed in the Evening Shade Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Pallbearers were Joe Taylor, Eric Johnson, Toby Johnson, Bonds Taylor, Kevin Tanner and Jeff Campbell.

Honorary pallbearers were Bennie Chesteen and Ernie Costilow
