ERIC LEWIS
Turn your television on to Salem's local channel 30; you might see Eric Lewis there on the Monday evening Country Bluegrass TV Show. Or go to the Internet and you can watch one of Lewis' performances with his band, the Lewis and Clark Bluegrass Expedition. You can even go see him stand at the pulpit every Sunday morning preaching at the Camp Church of Christ.

Clearly Lewis keeps busy. And after years of working and volunteering his efforts locally as well as nationally, he has been recognized.

Lewis was recently declared a member of the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels.

To be deemed a Kentucky colonel is the highest honor awarded by the state of Kentucky. Those honored with this title are known as ambassadors of good will and fellowship through their achievements and contributions to society, according to Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher.

"A list of Kentucky colonels is a who's who of outstanding men and women around the world," Fletcher said.

The 63-year-old Lewis, who began his music career playing the guitar at age 15, has developed a lifetime career in country and bluegrass music. He has performed all around the country with well-known musicians such as Ricky Skaggs, Bill Monroe and Allison Kraus.

Lewis said receiving the honorary title was unexpected and overwhelming.

"It's nice to be recognized, especially considering some of the people this (honor) groups me with," Lewis said.

Lewis also said it was encouraging to be recognized because of bluegrass music. "I've been playing this (bluegrass) music for a long time. It's an important part of our Ozark heritage," he said

Recorded broadcasts of Lewis' television show can be seen online any time at www.trimtntv.com.
