Benjamin (Ben) Charles Williams 85, of Horseshoe Bend died Nov. 26, 2006, at the Calico Rock Medical Center.
He was born in Fergus Falls, Minn., to John and Kate (Harms) Williams on Dec. 16, 1920.
After serving his country in WWII and receiving a Silver Star he came home and later married his wife Georgia on Sept. 25, 1948. They farmed in Barney, N.D., until 1974, when they moved to Horseshoe Bend. Golfing, fishing and the auxiliary police were his passion. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and member of the Elks. He was a member of the United Meth-odist Church of Horseshoe Bend where he was a generous contributor to the church. He was given the honor of being the friend of the college at North Dakota College of Science in 2002 where he rode in a private car in the homecoming parade and was honored at a banquet following the parade.
He is survived by his nephew and wife, Larry and Linda Niles of Estherville, Iowa; nieces, Linda and husband Steve Schrieber of Oxford, Iowa and Norma and husband Don Volner of West Plains; great niece, Debbie Brobst and (Pat); great nephews, Wesley Niles and John Mosier; and sister-in-laws, Margaret Williams of Wahpeton, N.D.; and Evy Williams of Barney, N.D.; a host of friends; and his special friend Margaret Sitton of Horseshoe Bend.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Georgia; two brothers, John Williams and George Williams.
A memorial service was held Dec. 7 at the United Methodist Church in Horseshoe Bend with burial at a later date.
