Duane Melvin Speas, 80, of Salem, son of the late Walter and Gladys Emma (Wede-meyer) Speas, was born June 20, 1926, in Audubon County, Iowa. He died Sept. 28, 2006, at the Fulton County Nursing Home in Salem.
Speas was united in marriage to Evelyn Edwards on April 20, 1953, in Irwin, Iowa.
They lived in Audubon County, Iowa, for seven years.
They purchased land in Salem on Oct. 7, 1956, moving to Salem in May 1960.
He worked as a farmer and was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include: two brothers-in-laws, Richard Edwards of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Maxwell Edwards of Council Bluffs; seven nieces and nephews, William Edwards of Council Bluffs, Leslie Edwards of Council Bluffs, Blanche Wagner of Kansas City, Mo., Lois Sapp of Ankeny, Iowa, Elva Hill of Butler, Mo., Marcia Storjohann of Des Moines, Iowa and and Teresa Schroder of Stapleton, Neb.; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and infant brother, Merle Alfred Speas.
Funeral services were held Oct. 3 at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem with Bro. Gary Barker officiating.
Interment followed in the Salem Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
Pallbearers were Wayne Larson, Rodney Barker, Roy Barker, Gary Barker, Randy Tyler, Justin Tyler and Cory Tyler.
