Deputies find 2-year-old alone outside at 2 a.m.

A Melbourne woman is facing felony charges after deputies say they found her child outside in the early hours before daylight.

Tonya Sanders, 24, of Melbourne was arrested at approximately 2 a.m. July 15 after deputies found her 2-year-old child in the yard of her Jay Street residence, according to authorities.

Officers tried to wake Sanders, who was inside the residence, but were unable to, according to authorities. Deputy Kristy Robbins took the child into protective custody and called the Department of Human Services.

When booked, Sanders tested positive for marijuana and methamphetamine, according to authorities. She posted bond in the amount of $2,000 and was released from the Izard County Detention Facility.

Sanders is charged with child endangerment, a class D felony.

Sanders will appear in Izard County Circuit Court Aug. 22.

Chad Jerome Langston, 20, of Melbourne was arrested July 19 on felony and misdemeanor charges related to drugs. Langston is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a class B felony; possession of a controlled substance, Xanex and Hydrocodone, a class D felony; possession of drug paraphernalia, a class C felony; possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, a class A misdemeanor; and fictitious tags, an unclassified misdemeanor.

Lawrence said Langston could possibly be tried as a habitual offender which carries enhanced penalties.

Langston was released from the Izard County Detention Facility after posting a $30,000 bond. Langston is scheduled to appear in Izard County Circuit Court Aug. 22.
