Lowther, Bonds to play in Grin Iron

Thursday, May 29, 2008

A pair of former Thayer Bobcat standout football players will get one more chance to lace 'em and take the field.

Michael Lowther and Tyler Bonds have been selected to play on the East team at the seventh annual Sertoma Grin Iron Classic, scheduled for June 7 at the Plaster Sports Complex on the campus of Missouri State University in Springfield.

The annual event features nearly 100 of Southwest Missouri's best football players in an East vs. West format.

The Sertoma Grin Iron Classic benefits the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, also known as "The Tooth Truck."

Last year over 4,000 fans attended the event at Parkview High School's JFK Stadium. This is the first year for the event to be held at the Plaster Sports Complex..

Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m., and a tailgate party, featuring food, games and plenty of fun, will start at 3 p.m.

The East squad will be coached by Cabool's Vince McCroskey, while Doug Buckmaster from Joplin will guide the West.

The players and coaches for the Grin Iron Classic are selected by the Southwest Missouri High School Football Coaches Association.

In its first six years, the Grin Iron Classic has provided over $200,000 in support of the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, a mobile dental office for at-risk children who do not have access to dental treatment. Since July, 2002, the "Tooth Truck" has helped nearly 7,000 children with $4.2 million in dental treatment through over 20,000 dental appointments.
