ALTON -- The Alton School District was recently recognized by state education officials as a school with Distinction in Performance. The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MDESE) presented school officials with the award at a banquet March 31, at the University of Missouri at Rolla.
In order to achieve this recognition, Alton School had to meet 13 out of 14 standards, which include MAP test results, reading scores, drop-out rate, attendance and students enrolled in advance courses. Alton School met all 14 standards and received 100 percent of the available points.
The Distinction in Performance Award is one of the state's most prestigious honors for local school districts. It is based on the academic performance criteria that form the basis of the state's accreditation system for local school districts.
Officials with the MDESE said congratulations is due everyone involved in the educational program at the Alton Schools. The hard work and strong focus on student achievement throughout the years have made a difference for students. Students, parents, faculty, staff, administration, and the community can be proud of this honor, they said.
