New assesments may raise values

Thursday, June 5, 2008

OREGON COUNTY -- Oregon County Assessor Charles Alford announced last week that he has completed a review of all real estate parcels in the county and has updated assessment data related to those parcels.

A statement from the Missouri State Tax Commission said the most recent ratio studies indicate assessments of improved properties are below the statutory required levels and fall outside accepted appraisal standards relied upon by the State Tax Commission.

Alford said he usually does assessments on odd years but was ordered by the state to do his assessment in 2008.

"Our office will be sending out an order of property change in the next few weeks," Alford said.

He said most notices will only reflect improvements made on properties. He said he did not make a flat rate change countywide on properties as the State Tax Commission wanted him to do.

Alford said he felt like the increase in the tax requested by the state would raise property values too much.
