James Raymond Thompson, 56, of Evening Shade, Ark., died May 15, 2008, in Evening Shade. He was born March 3, 1952, in Kansas, the son of John R. Thompson Sr. and Mary Jo (Kenner) Edler.

He was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked as an electrician for many years. He moved to Arkansas from Kansas City 33 years ago. He was a member of the Highland Hills Baptist Church.

He is survived by: three daughters, Emily Jo Thompson and husband, Nick of New York City, N.Y., Amber Dawn Despain and husband, Rodney of Ash Flat, and Rachel Elizabeth Thompson of Cherokee Village; his mother and step-father, Mary Jo and Charles Edler of Cherokee Village; his uncle and aunt, Lee and Greta Kenner of Chapman, Kan.; three brothers, Michael Blair Thompson and wife, Debra of Chapman, Kan.; three brothers, Michael Blair Thompson and wife, Debra of Hillsdale, Kan., Stephen Lee Thompson and wife, Kerry of Paola, Kan., and David Linley Thompson and wife, Angela of Lebanon, Mo.; one sister, Pamela Olson and husband, John of Evening Shade; four grandchildren, Montana Lane, Aspen Lane, Denver Lane, and Brody James Thompson; many nieces; nephews; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by: his grandparents, James Roy and Edrys Leigh Kenner; his father, John R. Thompson Sr.; a brother, John R. Thompson Jr.; three nephews, Michael Thompson Jr., Jessie Thompson and Johnnie Twilley; and one grandson, Cager Lane.

Funeral services were held May 19 at the Tri-County Funeral Home in Highland with burial following in the Oaklawn Cemetery with David Thompson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland.

Pallbearers were Carl Baldridge, John Olson, Rodney Despain, Jim Sitz, Clay Bratton and Chuck Rush.

Honorary pallbearer was  Henry Parker.
