On May 29, senior softballers from Jonesboro and Trumann invaded the Ash Flat Ball Park for a pair of games.
In game one, Jonesboro came out swinging heavy bats, getting off to a good start. Spring River, however, kept pace. In the third inning Charlie (The Tuna) Morgan pulled off an ESPN highlight type of double play to stop a Jonesboro rally. The team hit the ball well, including a couple of hits by Hillary Mangrum, along with solo homers by Dave Keylor and Jim Drozd. Spring River won 23-14.
In game two, Trumann and Spring River both hit the ball well. It was the Spring River defense that stopped several run-scoring chances for Trumann.
The Tuna hit the ball well, and Keylor hit another homer, helping Spring River to a 15-8 win. Manager Gary Bacon praised the team for their effort.
Herb Hess pitched both games.
