The investigation into Roy L. Stroud, 71, for sexual crimes was interrupted after the accused was hospitalized due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation began May 8 after allegations were made that Stroud made inappropriate sexual contact with a 14-year-old family member.
Stroud was questioned in regards to the complaint on May 9.
May 13, Izard County Deputies were dispatched to Stroud's residence where he was found on the back porch of his home.
According to authorities, Stroud's face was covered in blood and a 22-caliber rifle was found nearby along with notes left by Stroud.
"He left about three notes. One was apologetic in nature," Lawrence said. The apologetic note was in regards to the charges for which he was under investigation, Lawrence said.
"They were different. One was the apology, one was saying that he had disposed of all his property and sold his house," Lawrence said.
The gunshot wound resulted in Stroud being admitted to a hospital in Springfield, Mo.
After Stroud was released he was located in the Cushman area living with relatives where he was arrested June 4.
Lawrence said that Stroud is charged with three counts of rape, each a class "Y" felony and three counts of sexual assault in the second degree, each a class "B" felony.
Stroud remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $100,000 bond.
