Darrel E. McCamis, 79, of Highland, Ark., died June 11, 2008, at his home. He was born Jan. 2, 1929, in Lebanon, Ind., the son of Eldridge and Genovea (Cane) McCamis.
He was married to Elsie Johnson.
He worked as a supervisor for Cargill and served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He was of the protestant faith.
He is survived by: his wife, Elsie McCamis of the home; six sons, Terry Lee McCamis of Virginia, Mike McCamis, Darrel McCamis, Danny Allen McCamis, Ronnie Joe McCamis and David Clyde McCamis all of Tampa, Fla.; three daughters, Brenda Alvarez of Brandon, Fla., Nancy Crecelius of Virginia Beach and Janet Wyatt of Lithia, Fla.; two step-sons, Dicky Jo Turner of Minnea-polis, Minn., and Benjamin Neal Turner of Flower Mound, Texas; two step-daughters, Debbie Turner of Highland and Patty Hodge of Hill City, Minn.; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Lula Belle McCamis; one son, Douglas McCamis; and two brothers, Marvin and Dyke McCamis.
Funeral services were held June 14 at the Tri-County Funeral Home in Highland with Bro. Mike Stanley officiating. Burial followed with military honors in the Wiles Cemetery in Ash Flat. Arrangements were under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home of Highland, Ark.
Pallbearers were Shawn Johnson, Matt Hodge, Christopher Starkey, Neal Turner, Jackie Martin and Ed Foster.
Honorary pallbearers were Elmo Foster, Roy Johnson, Dikie Johnson and Wesley G. Wyatt.
