Cherokee Village Men's Golf Association
The first 8 a.m. tee time of the season did not deter any CVMGA golfers on June 3 at the South Course. As a matter of fact, an above-average number showed up for the two best ball event set up by Ralph Neill.
One of the notable shots of the day was Stan (The Man) Erickson's birdie on the fourth hole, which broke the tie on the card, giving his team first place in the second flight. Nice going, Stan. Other winners were:
1st: P. Pidrak, S. Clark, C. Garrett, J. Clark, J. Hudson
2nd: R. W. Lyerly, L. Thomas, R. Bryson, J. Hawbaker
1st: R. Ogden, R. Neill, S. Erickson, P. LaCroix
2nd: B. Smith, K. Helland, K. Paeth, R. Luchau
1st: L. Haas, G. Wolosuk, T. Manning, A. Koski, J. Harris
Golfers were given a choice on June 5 to play in a one best ball event or a pick-a-tee game at the North Course. Pick-a-tee is interesting because the team members must decide which tee box to use for each hole in order to achieve six hole play on each of the red, blue and white tees. Of course, the blue tees are almost an automatic for the par-3 holes. Best choosers for the day were:
ONE BEST BALL
1st: B. Bryson, J. Bieberitz, L. Hight
1st: C. Taylor, R. Neill, G. Peck, R. Owens, P. LaCroix
2nd: C. Wolff, C. McMahon, G. Hickert, J. Yates, D. Barns
3rd: S. Clark, W. Brooks, G. Maves, K. Helland
1st: C. Mengert, F. Hannon, T. Manning, D. Gammie
2nd: B. Thompson, J. Bryan, D., Kates, D. Reynolds
Chip shot: Golf has become like the fashion industry -- a hot driver used to last four years, then two years -- now it's down to one.

The 18-Hole Ladies Invitational for 2008 was played on the South Course June 11. The weather was beautiful, and there were 44 teams playing. Many ladies from the surrounding area made the effort and used precious gas to come here to Cherokee Village to play. Teams came from Jonesboro, Horseshoe Bend, Trumann, etc. Lunch was delightful, everyone had a good time and so many declared they would be back next year to play. Kudos to all who participated in making the 2008 Invitational such a success.
