After many requests, the Calico Rock/Pineville Chamber of Commerce has added a canoe race to last year's very successful kayak race.
So many people enjoyed the kayak race last year that canoers also want to get involved this year.
The canoe race this year will be a trial run, just for fun, with certificates being awarded to the winners. Registration forms are available at the Chamber office. Participants must be at least 16 years old and if less than 18 years old, have parental consent.
The canoe and kayak races are scheduled for June 28, starting at Red's Landing and ending in Calico Rock.
The kayak participants will sign in at 10:30 with an 11 a.m. start time. The canoers must sign in at 11 a.m. with an 11:30 a.m. start time.
The kayak race, with an entry fee of $30, will be for single-person kayaks and will have $500 in prize money.
There are two divisions -- men's and women's, with first place in each being $150; 2nd place in each $65 and 3rd place in each $35.
Registration forms for the kayak race are available online at www.calicorock.us.
All forms and release waivers, as well as other information, are available at the Chamber office, or by calling 1-800-297-4129.
No registrations for the kayak race will be accepted the day of the race but you may register then for the canoe race, though early registration is preferred.
All funds raised by the Calico Rock/Pineville Chamber of Commerce are used to sponsor scholarships, Toys for Tots and other events that support the community, the businesses and the culture of the Calico Rock/Pineville area.
