THAYER -- A Thayer woman, Michelle Becker, 43, drowned in her above ground swimming pool June 12.
According to Oregon County Sheriff Tim Ward, one of Becker's children found her in the pool at 7 a.m. that morning. The Becker's live on OO Highway.
He said a friend had stayed the night with her the night before and at 2 a.m. went in the house to sleep on the couch. The friend said Becker said she was not tired and stayed outside but was not in the pool.
Coroner Tom Clary said Becker died of an apparent accidental drowning and pronounced her dead at the scene at 8:30 a.m.
Ward said he did not suspect any foul play in the drowning but asked Clary to see that an autopsy was performed. The results have yet to be released.
A 34-year-old man from Mammoth Spring, Lance Smith, was seriously injured June 15 southeast of Thayer when his vehicle ran off the road and struck several trees.
Smith had to be extricated from the vehicle and was issued a summons for DWI, operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, failure to drive on the right side of the roadway and not wearing a seat belt.
Smith was taken by Oregon County Ambulance to Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains.
The accident happened on County Road 269 one mile southeast of Thayer.
