Cherokee Village Men's Golf Association
Event chairman Ralph Neill probably had to put in a little overtime in order to determine the winners in the ABCD scramble played at the South Course on June 10. With the C and D players hitting from the red tees, four teams in the first flight tied with 67's. Because only three places were being paid, the team of Bob Berger, Jim Hadley, Bob Wright and Lyle Hight were "carded out." Winners for the day were:
1st: B. Wade, T. Morris, R. Neill, J. Gove
2nd: A. Dohn, B. Smith, R. King, P. LaCroix
3rd: R. E. Lyerly, R. Thornton, A. Voorhies, B. Belland
1st: L. Parten, R. Owens, D. Lofquist, R. Wing
2nd: J. Hudson, J. Clark, G. Maves, T. Manning
3rd: T. Clark, C. Sinclair, L. Harrass, F. Hannon
1st: V. Crumpler, J. Bryan, D. Gammie, D. Reynolds
Members were given a choice of playing a scramble or a three best-ball event at the North Course on June 12. The overwhelming favorite choice was the scramble, which had 48 participants, while only six brave souls signed up for the three best-ball event. Interestingly, in the Niners scramble, all three teams ended up in a tie. A birdie on the tough 12th hole did the winning "card" trick for Dick Gammie, Bud Buescher, Jim Bryan, Don Reynolds and John Waldvogel. Other winners for the day were:
1st: L. Parten, C. Taylor, C. Sinclair, J. Hadley
2nd: L. Reynolds, G. Maves, T. Morris, R. Thornton
1st: F. Friend, J. Gove, L. Harrass, T. Jones, F. Hannon
2nd: L. Mennen, G. Delaney, B. Wright, A. Burroughs
1st: T. Clark, G. Peck, R. Girman
1st: B. Buescher, J. Bryan, D. Reynolds, D. Gammie, J. Waldvogel
Chip shot: The secret of good golf is to hit the ball hard, straight and not too often.
