Spring River tangles with Gene Mitchell Gang

Thursday, June 26, 2008

On June 12, the Spring River Senior Softballers traveled to Jonesboro and squared off against the Gene Mitchell Gang.

It was once again a nip and tuck game all the way.

Great plays at first base by Dan Hedrington and several great plays by Pat "Scoop" LaFaye put a stop to several Jonesboro scoring chances.

Hedrington hit a triple and Joe Bonds hit a towering drive off the fence and then used his Texas jack rabbit speed for an inside-the-park homer.

Spring River wins this one 18-14.

In game two, the Trumann bats came alive.

They hit hard and often, and this time Spring River did not keep up.

Trumann wins 16-8.

Dan Hedrington had another good defensive outing at first base.

Charlie  "Tuna" Morgan teamed up with "Scoop" LaFaye for another double play worthy of a replay.

Rick Comer had a triple in the game.

Herb Hess pitched both games.
