George Edwin Davenport was born Sept. 27, 1927, in La Crosse, Ark., the son of the late Herman B. Davenport and Mary E. Maynard Davenport. He died June 18, 2008, in Thayer, Mo., at the age of 80.
He was united in marriage Feb. 14, 1981, in Mammoth Spring, Ark., to Goldie Powell Dawson.
He was a self-employed painter and paper hanger, working in the Jonesboro, Ark., area for several years.
He is survived by: his wife, Goldie Davenport of the family home in Thayer; four step-children, Floyd Dawson and wife, Sallie of Muldrow, Okla., Larry Dawson of Thayer, Sue Todd and husband, Junior of Mammoth Spring, Ark., and Dianne Dodd and husband, Danny of Trumann, Ark.; 14 step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Smith of Graham, Texas; one nephew, Michael Laxton, Mayfield, Ark.; one niece, Sharon Taylor and husband, Gary of Desha, Ark.; numerous other nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; two step-children, Emma Dawson and Calbert Dawson; one step-grandchild, James Gilmer Jr.; one brother, J.B. Davenport; and two sisters, Virginia Skaggs and Dorothy Isom.
Funeral services were held on June 21 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Mo., with Rev. Charles Barnett officiating.
Burial followed in the Oak Lawn Cemetery at Batesville, Ark., with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
