According to Shady Oaks Administrator Janie Walters, in all, there are 45 CNAs at Shady Oaks working three different shifts.
Walters said the CNAs do a lot for the residents at Shady Oaks. "They do a lot of personal care such as bathing, feeding, helping them get dressed and exercise," she said.
All CNAs at Shady Oaks are required to have 75 hours of classroom training and 100 hours of floor training before they take a Missouri CNA test. Thelma Fuller is a registered nurse and the CNA instructor at Shady Oaks.
"Last week we honored our CNAs with a barbecue lunch, daily door prizes and a pizza party. Each CNA also received a tote bag and matching ink pen," Walters said.
Walters said all the staff and residents at Shady Oaks appreciate each CNA who gives back so much to their residents each day. "Shady Oaks is very fortunate to have many CNAs who have served in our facility for many years," she said.
Walters said it is amazing that the facility has two employees, both CNAs, that have worked for 39 years each at Shady Oaks. Sheila Merideth will celebrate her 39th year this July and her sister, Janice Collins, will celebrate her 39th year this August,
"Janice and Sheila's sister, Donna Coffey, is also a faithful employee who celebrates her 34th year this month. Following them is Sharon Myers and Sharon Lloyd who have been CNAs for 33 years," Walters said.
She said these five ladies have a wealth of knowledge, which they pass on to new employees teaching them excellent patient care. "Many healthcare facilities have wonderful things to offer, but not all of them have employees with this type of experience," Walters said.
Walters said Shady Oaks has many other staff members who have worked at the facility for several years. "Tim Amundson has been a CNA for 18 years. Lillian Carter and Linda Sacra have been with us for 16 years. Vicky Young follows them with 12 years experience and Kathy Reed has worked here eight years," Walters said.
She said these 10 employees lead by example. "They give their time to show our residents they care each day. As the administrator, I am very proud of each one of our CNAs who give excellent patient care at Shady Oaks Healthcare," she said.
