Merwin Leal Tucker, 82, of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., son of the late Leal Merwin and Julie Mae (Shammo) Tucker, was born May 30, 1926, in Royal Oak, Mich. He died June 21, 2008, at his home in Horseshoe Bend.
He was united in marriage to Ila Jean Sutherland Feb. 7, 1958, at Detroit, Mich. He worked in data processing for General Motors. He served as a volunteer EMS for Horseshoe Bend, was active in Muscular Dystrophy for 46 years and was a member of the Horseshoe Bend Methodist Church.
He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient at Iwo Jima.
He is survived by: a son, Brent Andrew Tucker and wife, Rhonda, of Horseshoe Bend; a daughter, Christine Farrar of Rogers, Ark.; a sister, Jacqueline Zerick of Tennessee; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, parents and one sister.
Funeral services were held June 28 at Barker's Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel in Horseshoe Bend. Interment followed in the Violet Hill Cemetery at Violet Hill, Ark., with arrangements under the direction of Barker's Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel.
Pallbearers were Gary Stalbaum, Mathew Stalbaum, Paul Pullins, Jeff Haskins, Edward Haskins, Mike Hilliker and Richard Pahlas.
Memorials preferred to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
