Russell Lee Ashley, of Viola, Ark., son of the late Harry Ashley and Julia Clark Ashley was born June 23, 1932, in Viola, Ark. He died June 23, 2008, at his home at the age of 76.
He was united in marriage to Zella Winberry July 6, 1977, at Salem, Ark. He was of the Baptist faith. He spent 20 years serving his country in the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was an engineer at Color Tile in Melbourne for many years.
Survivors include: his wife, Zella, of the family home; his children, Clyde Edward Ashley and wife, Mae, of Tucson, Ariz., Rhonda Elaine Black and husband, Pat, of Mountain Home, John Clark Ashley of Tacoma, Wash., Thomas Lee Ashley and wife, Linda, of Anchor Point, Alaska, Levi Russell Ashley and fiancee, Elizabeth, of Elizabeth, Ark., and Billy Jack Ashley and wife, Christy, of Byron; his brother, Kenneth Ashley and wife, Carol, of Viola; his sisters, Ashley Simmonds and husband, Don of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Jody LaFevers and husband, Steve, of Viola; his grandchildren, Aaron and David Ashley; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by: a brother, Jack; two sisters, Laverne Fry and Jane Burton; and his father and mother.
Services were held June 28 at Cox Blevins Chapel with burial following in Viola Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem, Ark.
