Eugene Boren, of Alton, Mo., was born Dec. 3, 1912, at Paragould, Ark., to Needum and Viola Boren, and died June 22, 2008, at Brooke Haven Healthcare in West Plains, Mo., at the age of 97.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1928 to 1948, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer with his last duty serving as the Navy Recruiter in the Little Rock, Ark., recruiting station.
He is survived by: his wife, May Boren, of Alton, Mo.; two daughters, Geraldine (Jerry) Johnson and husband Alvin of Myrtle, Mo., and Linda Combs and husband Truman of Thayer, Mo.; one son, Murrel G. Boren and wife Peggy of Thayer; six grandsons, Glen Johnson and wife Karen of Myrtle, Phil Johnson and wife Trisa Johnson of Myrtle, David Johnson and wife Lisa of West Plains, Mo., Scott Combs of Thayer, Dalin Combs of Taegu, South Korea, and Darin Combs and wife Mila of Taegu, South Korea; a host of great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Needum and Viola Boren; nine brothers and sisters; three grandsons, infants Mitchell David, Mark Kevin Combs and Paul Boren.
Services were held June 24, at the Clary Funeral Home in Alton, Mo., with Bro. Dennis Willard officiating. Interment followed in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Alton, Mo.
