Semi driver cited with DWI

Thursday, July 3, 2008

Traffic had to be stopped on Highway 62/412 at 12:15 p.m., June 24, when Jerry M. Joiner, 48, of Paragould, who was piloting a 2001 Freightliner semi-truck 2.5 miles east of Viola, veered from the right lane and crossed the two east bound lanes, according to reports.

Joiner traveled from the roadway and struck the wood line nearly overturning the cab, which rested at a sharp angle, according to a witness report.

Viola Fire Department search and rescue was on scene led by Fire Chief Boyd Dailey along with state and highway police.

"The vehicle traveled approximately 75 feet in the southern ditch before striking several trees," Investigating Arkansas State Trooper Daniel Busch said.

Joiner was injured and taken to the Fulton County Hospital.

Drugs were involved in the accident and Joiner was charged with driving left of center, failure to maintain control, no seat belt and DWI (drugs).
