Cherokee Village Men's Golf Association

Beautiful course conditions, as well as excellent weather, are bringing out more CVMGA golfers to enjoy the events arranged for their two scheduled play days each week. On June 24, a Shark Classic was set up by Ralph Neill at the South Course. This event calls for each golfer to play his own ball on all holes, but only one best ball counts on holes 1-6; two best balls are counted on holes 7-12; and three low balls are counted on holes 13-18. In the Niners flight, old pro Floyd Hannon heard about a 29 shot in the previous week's play and attempted to duplicate that score. With very little help from his teammates, his three birdie putts were enough to insure a first place finish for his team. Winners for the day were:

1st: B. Berger, W. Brown, L. Parten, R. Neill

2nd: J. Oplinger, P. Opalewski, R. Thornton

3rd: B. Wade, G. Duggan, J. Hawbaker, B. Wellman

1st: J. Mann, A. Voorhies, J. Soden, L. Hight

2nd: B. Smith, K. Helland, D. Girman, P. LaCroix

NINERS (Scramble)

1st: L. Harrass, F. Hannon, T. Manning, H. Weisman

2nd: D. Reynolds, L. Haas, D. Gammie, J. Bryan

3rd: V. Crumpler, J. Harris, T. Jones, D. Kates.

Once again, the game at the North Course on June 26 required golfers to play their own ball all the way, this time in a Hup 1-2-3 game. This game (as well as the Shark Classic played on June 24) enables individual scores to be recorded and subsequently used to adjust the individual handicaps which become the competition equalizers when teams are set up. For the Hup 1-2-3 game, the total of the three best balls are counted on the par-three holes; two best balls on the par-four holes; and one best ball on the par-fives. Coupons are in the box for the following:

1st: W. Broadway, B. Gracie, B. Staneck, T. Morris

2nd: A. Dohn, W. Brown, C. McMahon, R. Thornton

1st: L. Mennen, J. Yates, C. Wolff, J. Gove

2nd: R. Neill, R. Wing, S. Erickson, J. Soden

NINERS (Scramble)

1st: T. Zabel, F. Hannon, T. Manning, D. Gammie

2nd: P. Baker, J. Bryan, W. Yanke, D. Reynolds, B. Drain.
