Jesse J. Smith, 78, of Highland, Ark., died July 11, 2008, at the White River Medical Center in Batesville. He was born May 3, 1930, at Highland, Ark., the son of Oscar and Cena (Ferguson) Smith.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a business owner for many years and a farmer. He was a member of the Highland First Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Deltha Smith of the home; one son, Gary Smith and wife, Wilma of Highland; his daughter, Mitzi Carmon and husband, David, of Springdale; one brother, Leonard Smith of Agnos; two sisters, Lorene Robinson of Mountain Home and Ann Nealey of Batesville; two grandchildren, Jordan Carmon and Morgan Carmon both of Springdale, several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; one brother, Sherman Smith; and two sisters, Viola Fuller and Wilma Smith.
Funeral services were held July 13 at the Highland First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Tim Turner officiating. Burial followed in the Turkey Pen Cemetery located at Highland with arrangements under the direction of the Tri-County Funeral Home in Hardy.
Pallbearers were Charles Wiles, Rick Mills, Chuck Murphy, Rayburn Lindsey and Travis Price.
