Ruby Fern Carpenter was born Jan. 7, 1928, the daughter of Bert Matthew Garner and Rose Nell Ownes Garner. She died July 12, 2008, in West Plains, Mo., at the age of 80.
She was united in marriage on Jan. 9, 1949, in Thayer, Mo. to Edwin W. "Bill" Carpenter.
She was a longtime resident of Thayer, graduating with the class of 1946. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Thayer and served as president of the UMW. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #1014 in Alton.
She is survived by: her husband, Bill Carpenter of Thayer; two daughters, Patricia Sue Molloy and husband, Michael of Claymont Del., and Kathy Darlene Kerwin and husband, James of West Plains, Mo.; one son, Mark Edwin Carpenter of Thayer; six grandchildren, Michelle Hamilton of Mammoth Spring, Ark., Crystal Wilson of Elkland, Mo., Cory Molloy of South Carolina, Derrick Murphy, Luke Carpenter of Thayer, and Matthew Robertson of Thayer; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, Penny Pennington and husband, Paul and Adam Kerwin and wife, Krystal; two step-great-grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; and two brothers, Jay and William Garner.
Funeral services were held July 15 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer with Rev. Dr. James H. Shreaves officiating.
Burial followed in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
