John Malcolm Miller Jr., 70, son of the late John Malcolm and Kathryn Ruth (Wilenzick) Miller Sr., was born Jan. 26, 1938 in New York, N.Y. He died July 17, 2008, at Little Rock, Ark.
John was united in marriage to Deanna Elizabeth Dodge on June 28, 1958, in New York, N.Y. He spent his working years as a real estate broker and later as Golf Course Superintendent for the city of Little Rock for 15 years, retiring in 2000.
On May 25, 1994, he received the Audubon Sanctuary Award for Hindman Park Golf Course, which was the first certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Golf Course in Arkansas. He graduated from Cornell University with a degree in animal husbandry and horticulture.
He was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge 350, the Golf Course Superintendent's Association of Arkansas and America, the Horseshoe Bend Kiwanis Club, Arkansas Realtors Association, the Tri-County Board of Realtors, the Carriage Room Board of Directors, the Faith Presbyterian Church of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., and was a past MRID Commissioner for Horseshoe Bend.
He is survived by: his wife, Deanna Miller of Horseshoe Bend; three sons, John M. Miller III of Bella Vista, Ark., James R. Miller and wife Teri Huffaker of Oklahoma City, Okla., and John Wesley Miller and Karen of Cabot, Ark.; daughter, Kathryn E. Anderson and husband Mike of Frisco, Texas; grandson, Liam Malcolm Miller of Cabot, Ark.; sister, Nina Jo Griggs; nephew, Charles (Chip) Moseley; and niece, Drew Moseley Kristofik, all of Westport, Conn.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm and Kathryn Miller.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 26 at 11 a.m., at the Horseshoe Bend United Methodist Church in Horseshoe Bend, Ark., with Rev. Brien Nix Hall and Rev. Merlin Stratton officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker's Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel in Horseshoe Bend.
Memorials are preferred to the Horseshoe Bend Kiwanis Reading is Fundamental Program or the Arkansas Children's Hospital.
