Following a rainout on June 28, the fifth annual Fountain Place/Tommy Bolt Classic was played July 12 at the Cherokee Village South Course.
A shrinkage in teams was expected due to the weather delay, but nevertheless, 27 teams enjoyed a beautiful day for golf, with some competitors coming from as far away as Wyoming.
Though not all returns are in yet, event organizers estimate that net proceeds of the tournament to benefit Fountain Place will be near $10,000 again this year.
The committee was privileged to again honor its patron, Tommy Bolt, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Although Bolt was unable to attend due to failing health, it was announced that the Classic was being played in his honor this year, to recognize the 50th anniversary of his U.S. Open championship.
This year's tournament winners were:
1st: With a score of 60, Kelley Webb, Rodney Burns, Sandra Hughes and Helen Chaffin; 2nd: Mike Cone, Kermit Blevins, Kelley Webb and Mark Miller; 3rd: Brad Bibb, Shane Smith, John Scribner and Clay Spencer.
