Softballers split in Jonesboro

Thursday, July 31, 2008

After a rain-out the previous week in Ash Flat, the Spring River senior softballers traveled to Jonesboro on July 17. In this game, it appeared that Jonesboro was going to blow things wide open.

However, good hitting by Dan Hendrington, including a homer and a triple, along with a double by the "Tuna" and hits from "Easy" Ed Snyder and Hillary "Scrappy" Mangrum, put the Spring River guys back in the game.

On defense, Dan Hendrington made a good run-assisted play at first. Dennis (not the Menace) Brake had another good catch in the outfield and Spring River won a close one, 13-10.

In the Trumann game, Spring River fell behind early and had to play catch up once again.

Rick Coner hit a couple of triples. "The Tuna" went on a hitting rampage and got several hits, driving in several runs. On defense, Pat "Scoop" LaFaye teamed up with Charlie Morgan for a couple of double plays. In the outfield, Brake and "Easy" Ed made some good catches. Hendrington had a major league catch in short left field. At the end of the game, the scoreboard read Trumann 13, Spring River 12. Herb Hess pitched both games. "Wimpy" kept score.
