The $400 the city of Hardy owed Main Street Hardy for an electric bill incurred from Hardy's faulty appliances is now missing.
An investigation by Hardy Police Chief Ernie Rose as to the whereabouts of the $400 check which, according to Hardy Mayor Nina Thornton, was dropped off at the post office by Hardy City Hall Clerk Audrey Campbell, is being conducted.
According to Thornton, they followed the usual system and are unaware of how the check was misplaced.
"We have a system of who it goes through and we went through that system," Thornton said.
The investigation is now in its second week and Thornton said she has already issued the invoice to be paid again as of July 18.
Main Street Hardy President Donna Cruz verified that she had not received the check but hopes the mystery is soon solved.
