Eleven out of 21 members of the Shooting Stars from Gina's Gymnastics recently attended an NCA Summer Camp at West Plains Middle School.
Founded in 1948 by L.R. Herkimer, the NCA/NDA hosts camps, championships and events for 150,000 cheerleaders and dancers each year.
As part of the three-day camp curriculum, the National Cheerleaders Association selects award winners at each of the over 1,000 camps it administers around the world each summer.
Awards are given for individual and team accomplishments. Members of the Shooting Stars who earned awards were:
All-American team members: Maddy Jackson, Daniele Evans, Ashton Gibson, Anna and Kate Henry.
This is the most prestigious award in cheerleading today.
Participants vying for All-American status are judged on motion technique, jumps, tumbling, spirit and enthusiasm, voice projection and overall crowd appeal.
These individuals are eligible to perform at various NCA special events.
All-American nominees: Jade Landry, Burgin Shelby, Gabby Henry, Jana Tucker, Daniele Evans, Shelby Hopkins and Loganne Green.
These are outstanding individuals who display strength in one of the following categories: motions, jumps, stunts, tumbling, dance or leadership.
These individuals are eligible to perform at various NCA special events. Excellence in Leadership Award: Maddy Jackson, captain, for displaying the strongest leadership during "Captain's Classes" and camp.
The Shooting Stars team received the Technical Excellence Award for displaying superior skills during their evaluation and the SPOT Award for using safety while stunting, spotting and displaying proper stunt techniques.
The Shooting Stars will be traveling to Branson in February and to Little Rock in March of 2009 to compete in future competitions.
