Foundation seeking donations to help with projects

Thursday, July 31, 2008

OREGON COUNTY -- The Oregon County Community Foundation is seeking donations to help them receive a $25,000 match.

If the Oregon County Community Foundation can raise $25,000, the Community Foundation of the Ozarks will match that $25,000.

Joe Crider, who serves as secretary/treasurer of the foundation, said the foundation now has a tremendous opportunity for Oregon County residents to make a tax deductible contribution. "As an affiliate of the Community Foundation of the Ozarks in Springfield, the Oregon County Community Foundation is part of this match program," he said.

"This match is sponsored by the Cooper Supply Company in Springfield partnering with the Community Foundation of the Ozarks," he said.

They are also seeking donations to help with various projects. They currently fund the Alton School Foundation and sponsor a couple of scholarships each year.

The foundation is governed by a board of directors. They include: Gary Cross, chairman, Joe Crider, secretary/treasurer, Ed Hatten, David Crews and Wilma Heiskell. The foundation was established in July 2007.

They are currently searching for board members from the southern portion of Oregon County.

Crider said the local foundation supports philanthropic opportunities in the county only for scholarships, literacy, education and endowments.

"As we get funds we pass it along to other groups and organizations," Crider said.

For more information about the foundation or if someone would like to donate to the foundation or are from the southern portion of the county and would like to serve on the board of directors, call Crider at 417-778-7295 or Gary Cross at 417-778-7490.
