Traffic stop leads to arrest

A routine traffic stop Aug. 3 relating to speeding on Arkansas Highway 69 south of Melbourne resulted in the arrest of a Mountain Grove, Mo., man.

Deputy J.T. Baker initiated the traffic stop near the intersection of 69 and 69 spur and discovered a quantity of what appeared to be methamphetamine along with a smoking pipe, digital scales commonly used in the distribution of drugs and packaging material.

According to Sheriff Tate Lawrence, Elmer William Blair, 47 had in his possession three bags of ice, the purer form of meth. Blair was taken to the Izard County Detention Facility where he remains pending multiple formal felony charges.

The 1992 Jeep Blair was driving along with some $6,700 in cash was seized. The case has been turned over to the 16th Judicial Drug Task Force.
