A growing number of our readers never pick up the newspaper. Instead, they head to their computer and type in www.southmissouriannews.com to view the latest news in the area.
In the past, The News and The South Missourian News have shared a Web page, but that has now changed as each publication has its own unique Web address.
The new Web site for The South Missourian News has many new features and is much easier to navigate. In addition, Web site readers will be able to get more involved through comment sections at the end of each story, a Speak Out section, the Blogs and our weekly online poll question.
One of the most popular sections already is the Blogs. We currently have six bloggers set up and more will be online in the future. Keep watching this section, it may surprise you who will be sharing their thoughts and dreams with the world.
A special contest is underway on our Web site and you're invited to take part in the fun. Look for the blog of "Menopausal Redhead" on the left side of the Web page. At the end of each of her blog entries is a comment section. Give her a weight-loss tip or just a word of encouragement and you could win a free subscription to The South Missourian News. Each time you leave a comment, you will be entered into a drawing for the free subscription. We want you to become familiar with the new Web site so log on today and have some fun.
The new site also has a photo gallery which is growing each week. Special events can be viewed here and soon you will be able to purchase these color photos. These galleries contain all of the photographer's shots, not just the few we publish in the newspaper each week.
In addition, the site now contains live weather forecast, warnings and satellite from the National Weather Service, Associated Press videos, breaking news and even some really weird news from around the world.
Within the next few months a new e-edition will be available that will allow subscribers to read the entire publication online. The e-edition will appear exactly as it does in print. Readers from far away will be able to read The South Missourian News without waiting for the paper to arrive in the mail.
The future for the Web site will include local videos of events and breaking news from this area as we update this weekly newspaper on a daily basis. User submitted stories and pictures will also be added to help make it easier for you to get information to others.
Let us know what you think of the new site at www.southmissouriannews.com and keep watching as we develop it further.
