Salem, Izard County post season-opening golf wins

The Salem Greyhounds and Izard County Lady Cougars topped their respective divisions in season-opening golf action Aug. 7 at The Course at Turkey Mountain in Horseshoe Bend.

The Hounds shot a team-total of 119 to win the boys' competition, while the Lady Cougars carded a 148, good for first place on the girls' side.

Greers Ferry finished second in boys' play with a 140, with Izard County rounding out the tri-match with a 154.

The Lady Greyhounds of Salem came in second in the girls' division with a 151. Greers Ferry did not record a team score in the match.

Salem's J.W. Blevins earned medalist honors in the boys' division with a 35, while Jon Goodson shot a 40.

Matt Twilley added a 44 and Shane Smith a 45 for the Hounds.

Preston Harmon paced Izard County with a 46, with Caleb Cowan carding a 53.

Jake Dockins finished his day with a score of 55, while Caleb Blevins shot a 68 for the Cougars.

On the girls' side, Rachel Harmon and Kiley Mettler tied for medalist honors by shooting a 44 each for Izard County.

Sierra Riley finished with a 60 for the Lady Cougars.

Annie Smith paced Salem with a 48, while Stephanie McCullough shot a 49.

Laci Long ended the day with a 50 and Autumn Coffman a 56 for the Lady Greyhounds.
