Mettler, Blevins medalists in Turkey Mountain match

Paced by medalist Kiley Mettler's two-over 38, the Izard County Lady Cougars topped Salem and Melbourne in a three-team golf match Aug. 12 at The Course on Turkey Mountain.

In boy's action, Salem's J.W. Blevins carded a one-under 35 for his second medalist honors in the past week, as he helped the Hounds hold off second-place Melbourne and Izard County.

The Lady Cougars finished with a total of 128 for the day, with Rachel Harmon shooting a 39 and Sierra Riley a 51.

Salem came in second in girls' action with a team-total of 146.

Annie Smith led the Lady Hounds with a 44, while Stephanie McCullough finished with a 50 and Autumn Coffman a 52.

Melbourne rounded out the field with a 159.

Maggie Cooper shot a 42 for the Lady Katz, followed by Laura Basquez's 54 and Sadie Price's 63.

The Greyhounds' team score of 124 was good for first, followed by Melbourne with a 134 and Izard County's 141.

Matt Twilley carded a 44 for Salem, with Jon Goodson adding a 45.

For Melbourne, Sam Cooper led the way with a 42, Spencer Caraway shot a 44 and Adam Cooper ended the day with a 45.

Preston Harmon paced Izard County with a 39, while Caleb Cowan added a 43 and Jake Dockins a 59.

The results were much the same two days later at Turkey Mountain, with the Izard County girls carding a 134 to top their division, while the Greyhounds shot a 118 to win their division again.

For the Lady Cougars, Harmon earned medalist honors with a 39, Mettler shot a 41 and Riley finished with a 54.

The Lady Greyhounds came in second with a 156 for the day. Smith finished with a 49, while Laci Long shot a 53 and McCullough a 54.

Melbourne came in third, led by Maggie Cooper's 45. Emily Carroll shot a 60 and Abbi Miller a 67 for the Lady Katz.

On the boys' side, Salem's Shane Smith nabbed medalist honors with a 37 to pace the Hounds' team-total of 118. Blevins carded a 39 and Twilley a 42 for the Greyhounds.

Melbourne came in second with a 124. Kiefer Smith shot a 38, while Lee Lewis and Sam Cooper added a 43 apiece.

Izard County's 142 was led by Preston Harmon's 43, with Cowan shooting a 45 and Dockins a 54.
