Spring River bounces back after tough week

Thursday, August 28, 2008

What a difference a week makes.

Last week the Spring River senior softballers scored seven runs in two games.

But on Aug. 14, they put on an offensive show.

Triples by Pat LaFaye and Rick Cowen, plus inside-the-park homers by Tony Clementi, Joe Bonds and Dan Hedrington, lit up the scoreboard.

However, the highlight of the day was the home run by Hillary Mangrum who also had a double.

ESPN would have showed this highlight many times.

On defense, Jack Carmon made several good catches in the outfield.

Spring River wins this one 25-4.

The Trumann game was closer than the final score indicates.

It was tied 9-all going into the sixth inning.

The difference was Trumann continued to score and the Spring River bats did not answer.

On offense, Rick Comer hit two homers, one a three-run shot.

Dan Hedrington also homered and  Joe Bonds tripled.

The defense had some good plays and some breakdowns. In the end, Trumamn outlasts Spring River 17-9.

Herb Hess pitched both games.
