John McDonald Billing Jr., 87, of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., son of the late John McDonald and Mattie Elizabeth (Nettleton) Billing Sr., was born Dec. 26, 1920, in Pocatello, Idaho. He died Aug. 17, 2008, at the Spring River Therapy and Living Center in Salem, Ark.
John was united in marriage to Virginia Billing on Aug. 12, 1942, at Oakland, Calif. He spent his working years as a construction contractor. John served his country in the U. S. Navy during WWII and he was of the Presbyterian faith.
He is survived by: son, John McDonald Billing III of Palmdale, Calif.; two daughters, Chris Shaefer of Palm Springs, Calif., and Kathy McNamara of Big Bear, Calif.; three brothers, Charles Stuart Billing of Pioneer, Calif., Russell Edgar Billing of Sacramento, Calif., and Lawrence Billing of Glencoe, Ark.; sister, Carmin June Davis of Silver Springs, Md.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his wife; parents; and daughter Sharleen Berstler.
A memorial service will be held on Sept. 15 at 11 a.m., at the Horseshoe Bend Presbyterian Church with Rev. Brien Nix Hall officiating.
Arrangements are being made under the direction of Barker's Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel.
